Voter's Remorse: How Trump’s Policies Harm His Own Supporters

Trump supporters are discovering the consequences of voting against your own interests.

Trump voters are quickly realizing the consequences of their vote as they become some of the first ones fucked over by his administration’s policies.

Seeing as how this is Trump’s second term in office, we have the privilege of watching Trump voters fall for ‘The Art of the Grift’ not just once, but a second time, and boy, is this round harsh and full of regret.

From federal DEI workers and crypto bros, to the agricultural industry and white women on WIC, these are just some of the people who’ve been thrown under the bus by Trump’s policies:

Layer 1: Special Snowflakes

A shady businessman will always revert to his natural state of scamming, and Donald Trump is one of the most notorious grifters to walk this earth. No one is safe, including the gullible souls who fell for $TRUMP, his crypto meme coin scam that launched two days before his inauguration.

The meme coin was marketed to Trump voters as a celebratory token, and even the first-lady Melania Trump joined in with the launch of the $MELANIA crypto coin. But crypto experts quickly noticed that 80% of the coin’s supply was owned by Trump-owned entities, signaling a high risk of manipulation similar to other crypto rug-pull schemes.

Just as expected, Trump and Melania pulled the rug before the coin’s value crashed, resulting in over 800,000 crypto wallets losing 2 billion dollars. When asked about the rug pull, Trump shrugged his shoulders and said, “I don’t know much about it other than I launched it.” No accountability? No problem!

Financial losses are only the tip of the iceberg as Trump supporters themselves discover that the President’s plan for mass deportations also include them and their loved ones. This man in South Florida recently went viral after ICE raided his home and deported his wife back to Venezuela.

Some of these Trump voters weren’t thrown under the bus but instead, volunteered to hurl themselves under the bus like this woman who went on a racist anti-Latino Tik Tok rant, only to be fired by her employer shortly after. And don’t forget this racist dipshit who went on a rant against Mexicans at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and was fired after the post spread like wildfire on Tik Tok.

Layer 2: You Thought You Were Safe?

Supporters of Donald Trump don’t just come in the form of billionaire oligarchs and big businesses. Many of Trump’s most loyal fans are low-income folks who receive government benefits like WIC (The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children), Medicaid, and SNAP, and they’re quickly starting to discover that they made the wrong choice.

42.6 million Americans rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and Trump, DOGE, and Republican lawmakers are all scrambling to slash these safety nets to the bone, putting millions of working poor Trump voters at risk of increased food insecurity. This also includes requiring American senior citizens to work in order to receive SNAP benefits.

It’s only been a month into Trump’s presidency, and the buyers remorse crowd is quickly learning they fucked up.

And if that wasn’t enough, House GOP has been hard at working trying to slash Medicaid spending over the next 10-years by $2.3 trillion. Medicaid provides 72 million American seniors, children, and disabled people with healthcare assistance, many of whom only earn less than $50,000/year.

Robbed of their healthcare and food assistance benefits, many Trump voters will also experience massive consequences to their school system if the Trump administration fulfills their promise to dismantle the Department of Education, a move that would greatly impact red states. And that’s because red states use a great portion of federal funds compared to blue states.

"That dependence is, in large part, because they're just lower wealth states and they don't have the same capacity to step in and make up that difference.”
- Kevin Welner, Director of the National Education Policy Center

Layer 3: We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Bus

Trump’s policies aren’t just impacting a few Republicans here and there, nor is it limited to individuals or “woke” organizations and “DEI hires.” Whole entire industries that showed up to vote for Trump in 2024 are having to brace themselves for higher costs and massive labor shortages caused by this administration’s mass deportations and deregulations.

The farming-industry overwhelmingly supported Donald Trump in 2024 to the tune of 77.7%, yet they’re also the same folks at risk of losing their entire workforce if undocumented immigrants are mass deported.

“Immigrants are critical to the farming industry… I mean, I’m having a hard time finding eggs right now, and I’m sure a lot of viewers are as well. We appreciate having avocados and milk, and if you were to just remove a significant part of our farm workforce, we’re going to start seeing $20 lettuce, $16 cartons of eggs, or no milk. Because nearly all of the dairy farmers and farm workers here in in our nation, including in Illinois and the Midwest, are immigrants.”
- Rebecca Shi, CEO at the American Business Immigration Coalition.

Here in Arizona, over 500,000 people are employed by the construction, hospitality, and agricultural sectors. Mass deportations in just this state alone would amplify the shortage of labor and increase the cost of housing and groceries — a lose-lose-lose situation for immigrants, employers, and consumers.

And it’s not just those three industries either. Migrant labor is instrumental in general services, wholesale trade, transportation, warehousing, manufacturing, restaurants, retail, and mining.

Voters Remorse

On one hand, I feel terrible that millions of innocent people, migrants, working families, single mothers, disabled folks, and senior citizens will be left out in the cold by Trump’s fascist policies. I believe a functional society must have a stable economic floor to protect vulnerable people from falling from the cracks.

But on the other hand, I’m laughing (to stop myself from rage crying) over the fact that this Trump victory was made possible by the very same people Trump is currently screwing over. A true “the leopard ate my face” moment that will only claim more victims and cause more destruction as this administration progresses.

Stories On My Radar

1. When Fascism Hides Behind Religion: Meet the Priest Who Lost His License For Doing a Nazi Salute

Conservative ideologies and Religion have always been bedfellows, but we usually see this manifest in the form of Conservatives weaponizing religion to justify bans on abortion or gay rights.

What we don’t often see are established religious figures openly displaying their Conservative beliefs and becoming influencers within the right-wing.

Enter: Calvin Robinson, a right-wing British political commentator who went viral for failing to employ “British humor” in the form of a sieg heil. At a pro-life event, Robinson ended his speech with a Nazi salute, in an attempt to send his “heart out” similar to Elon Musk’s Nazi salute. The joke fell flat, the Anglo Catholic Church revoked Robinson’s license, he got dragged through the mud, and he’s since been on a PR campaign to remind everyone that actually, the people calling him are the hateful ones.

But this isn’t Calvin’s first encounter with conservative politics. Robinson is a writer who contributes to Daily Mail, appeared in multiple Conservative podcasts, and ran/lost an election in 2016 as the Conservative Party candidate for the Kilburn ward of Brent Council.

As I think about Calvin Robinson, I’m reminded of this important quote from Sinclair Lewis:

“When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross.”

2. From Insurrection to Incarceration: The Fate of Trump’s Pardoned Rioters

Last month, Donald Trump issued around 1,500 pardons and commuted sentences for the criminals who stormed the U.S Capitol on January 6th, 2021. These pardoned terrorists have a history of domestic abuse charges, trafficking, and assault, and many have ties to extremist groups like the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers.

In a surprisingly unsurprising turn of events, many of these pardoned criminals have met an unfortunate fate shortly after being released. Some have reoffended and landed back in jail, while others met a more tragic fate at the hands of police.

Matthew Huttle: Killed in Police Shooting

Andrew Taake: Wanted for Soliciting a Minor

3. Is “Price Transparency” a Trojan Horse for Healthcare Privatization?

Last week, UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones released a promotional video expressing his newest and biggest battle: fighting for healthcare pricing transparency. He also appeared in a commercial during Superbowl Sunday, a marketing spectacle that costs over $8 million dollars for 30-seconds.

At first, I was impressed that Jon Jones, a proud Trump supporter who attended the January inauguration, was taking on such a noble cause like pricing transparency. He even appeared in a Super Bowl commercial which only amplified this “noble” cause.

But then I dug a bit deeper and discovered some questionable details not only about the organization that sponsored Jon, but also the discourse surrounding “pricing transparency” in the first place.

Power to the Patients (PTTP) is the non-profit organization behind this campaign and their mission is to encourage voters to pass a new healthcare law that requires all hospitals to publish real prices online. They claim that pricing transparency will help people make better, more informed choices while finding the best prices. And at face value, I fully agree that we need this level of transparency to combat the outrageous overpricing of healthcare.

But when we look closer at PTTP, we see that the founders (Kevin Morra, Paul J. Morra, Cynthia Fisher) all have deep relationships with the private healthcare industry or right-wing politics.

Cynthia Fisher, a healthcare entrepreneur married to Jim Koch, founder of the Boston Beer Company, previous founded Patients Rights Advocate (PRA) an eerily similar non-profit organization also dedicated to pricing transparency. As you inspect their marketing and communications, one type of language becomes abundantly clear: they want to “advance free market healthcare” and make it “competitive.”

This framing of healthcare as a competitive marketplace suggests that PTTP is mainly focused on neoliberal healthcare reforms that reveal prices without actually critiquing our system of healthcare in the first place. What good is pricing transparency if the price of care is too high to begin with?

That’s where Kevin and Paul come in: these two filmmaking brothers have worked on numerous commercial projects in Hollywood for clients like Adidas, Microsoft, and Amazon, and they’ve used their marketing talents to frame pricing transparency as a populist bipartisan issue focused on “hidden prices” instead of questioning why our public healthcare system is so deeply flawed and underfunded to begin with.

Although I can’t claim with 100% certainty that shady work is being done behind the scenes of PTTP in collaboration with the far-right, my eyebrows are fully raised and skeptical towards this push for pricing transparency in the name of “competitive” healthcare, and their desire to hire rappers, athletes, and celebrities to be their figureheads. I have yet to find a critical piece of journalism focused on PTTP, but I’m confident that as this campaign progresses, we’ll see more layers of this onion unfold.

BIPOC Creators You Should Follow

Meet Briahna Joy Gray, an American political commentator, host of the Bad Faith podcast, and the former National Press Secretary for Bernie Sanders in 2020.

I first came across Briahna during her campaign for Bernie Sanders, and I have since been an avid follower of her political analysis and the amazing guests she invites to onto the Bad Faith youtube channel.

I admire Briahna’s pro-Palestine views, her support of truly progressive and far-left ideas, and her willingness to criticize the Democratic establishment and even Bernie Sanders himself. I don’t often support political pundits given their ties to legacy media and establishment Democrats, but Briahna’s work and consistent values have been time-tested and always in support of the working class.
